MINING

South Africa

Kermas, through and with Afarak, has invested extensively in chrome resources and ferrochrome processing plants in South Africa, known to house more than 75% of the world's chrome reserves. We are currently also involved in developing a large scale pig-iron and titanium project, Veremo.

Zimbabwe

In Zimbabwe Afarak owns the Waylox Mine Development Project, located on the Great Dyke in Zimbabwe. It is a small, alluvial, but high-grade chrome deposit.

Burundi

During an exploration phase, Kermas discovered 230 million tonnes of nickel, iron, copper, cobalt and platinum deposits in Burundi, regarded as one of the prime undeveloped mining projects in the world. The Group now awaits the finalization of mining rights. We are also planning to build large scale hydropower and solar plants in order to meet the electricity needs of our future ore processing work in Burundi.

Afarak has headquarters in Malta. RCS, a Afarak subsidiary company, which conducts global sales and marketing for the group, is also based there.

Croatia

As the newest EU country and the birthplace of Kermas’ founder, Dr. Danko Koncar, Croatia, has become a focal point for Kermas’s growth in recent years. Following an intensive investment cycle, Kermas has significantly expanded its Croatia portfolio to include vital infrastructure projects, in addition to luxury tourism destinations. It owns a shipyard, two large sites for marinas, and a wind farm. Kermas is also a major shareholder in a diesel engine factory, Adria Diesel in Karlovac.

Bosnia and Herzegovina

Bosnia and Herzegovina has some of the largest hydro potential in Europe and is a vital part of Kermas' green energy expansion strategy. Kermas has already invested in four small hydro power plants and is actively seeking out similar investments.

Operations of Afarak’s Turkish subsidiary TMS have several chrome mining operations with ore beneficiation facilities.

Hong Kong BMM (Burundi Mining and Metalurgy) is a Kermas daughter company, based in HK. In the medium term it plans to list on the Hong Kong stock exchange. China, as the world's largest consumer or metals, is a critical market for Burundi exports and key growth area for Kermas.

Germany

Elektrowerk Weisweiler (EWW) is the oldest speciality alloys plant in Europe, dating back to 1905. Afarak purchased the German-based company, from Kermas in 2012. EWW is an expert smelting operation, producing a range of specialist products, such as ultralow carbon and high chrome content ferrochrome which are used in the automotive and aerospace industries, as well as in power generation.

Afarak Group, an integrated mining and minerals company is listed on the London Stock Exchange and the Helsinki Nasdaq OMX. Kermas LTD is Afarak's main shareholder and conducts the majority of its mining operations through Afarak.
